Phoebe Venable, CFA®, joined CapWealth in 2010 and has been in the financial services industry since her career began back in 1987. As President and Chief Operating Officer, her commitment to working with multi-generational client families and furthering client financial education has established her as an inspiration at CapWealth. Our firm and our clients know just how valuable Phoebe is, and the nation is catching on as well: In 2014, Phoebe was named one of the Top 100 Woman Financial Advisors in the U.S. by the Financial Times.
In 1987, Phoebe began her career with SunTrust Bank in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After completing her MBA, Phoebe spent five years working for a private trust company in Central Florida managing a large-cap value investment strategy. She managed portfolios for high-net-worth families and individuals, family foundations and charitable organizations. Phoebe served on the Investment Committee and was responsible for the organization’s asset allocation process and trading.
Phoebe returned to SunTrust in 1998 as Portfolio Manager providing wealth management services to ultra-high net worth families in Central Florida. She was promoted in 2002 to first Vice President and Private Client Advisor. In this role, Phoebe worked with the bank’s wealthiest clients to provide financial solutions for all aspects of their life. In 2005, Phoebe moved to SunTrust Bank in Nashville as Managing Director of Private Wealth Management and was part of the bank’s local senior leadership team.
Phoebe came to CapWealth from the Nashville office of GenSpring Family Offices, a multi-family office firm owned by SunTrust. In 2009, Phoebe launched the Nashville location and was the investment advisor for client families in the Southeastern United States. She also served on the company’s national leadership team conducting family member education programs across the United States.
Phoebe earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Murray State University in Kentucky. She continued at Murray State to earn her MBA in Finance & Economics. In addition to holding the designation Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®), she also holds certifications from both the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University and the Regional Trust School at Samford University. Phoebe is a member of the Nashville Society of Financial Analysts.
In addition to being named one of the Top 100 Woman Financial Advisors in the nation by the Financial Times, Phoebe was named to the Nashville Post‘s “In Charge” list of top banking and finance professionals in both 2013 and 2014. She was also a finalist for the 2012 Nashville Business Journal Women of Influence awards. Phoebe is frequently asked to speak on financial topics such as women and wealth, next-generation education, behavioral finance and investing.
A columnist for The Tennessean, Phoebe writes a bi-weekly financial column on women, families and building wealth. The column appears every other Saturday in the business section of the newspaper, and has also appeared in USAToday.com, Louisville’s The Courier-Journal, The Des Moines Register, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
